It’s hard to imagine that coding plays a major part in the potential cure for this deadly disease. As we speak, doctors and scientists are marrying biology and mathematics with machine learning and data analytics to make this a possible reality.

As the lead Data Scientist at the Institute of Cancer Research, Dr. Baissan Al-Lazikani collects data from patients undergoing cancer diagnosis and recovery and manipulates the data sets to discover patterns. She manages the intelligent application of computers in adaptive, individualized therapy. As a result of her efforts, her team has the world’s largest cancer disease information database. In the video below, Dr. Al-Lazikani discusses the importance of computer science and data collection for the discovery of new medical treatments, especially for cancer.
